Sherlock

I admit it:  I'm addicted.  The idea of a 21st century Sherlock Holmes is mind-candy enough, but when the real thing is this fabulous, I have to help spread it all over the internet.  PBS is showing the first three episodes (alas! That's all there is...for now) for free for a limited time HERE.  Thanks to fabulous artists Lucy and Nora for linking to it from their delightful studio blog!

Breaking Up the Band

Wooo!  Back to daily posting!  Curriculum writing and grannysitting has been knocking me out the last few weeks, but I had a fabulous inspiration to get back in the habit yesterday--the oh-so-talented Mark Radcliffe!  Hosted by Angelo and Jeff, and organized by the wonderful Jacynth of Camp Galileo fame, Mark visited us in San Francisco as part of his west coast, check-me-out-I-won-a-Hyundai-Sonata-for-a-month tour.  His dreamy acoustic love songs were a perfect fit for the mood of the evening (wine, friends, and comfy chairs in a gorgeously decorated living room), but he really knocked my socks off when he whipped some killer bluesy riffs out of nowhere on his guitar!

The above doodle is inspired by his hilarious and very observant song, "Breaking Up the Band."  It's track #9 on his new album, which you can listen to (or better yet, buy) at his website!  Go check him out!

Steampunk (ish) Sketches

Ooops, missed a day already!  Sorry, everyone--I HAVE been drawing every day, but I haven't been near a scanner.  To make up for it, I'm posting some older doodles, and will catch up tomorrow when I'm back at home.

This robot was inspired by a conversation with a friend (over a glass of wine) about how confidence lets you get away with just about anything.  He has a Ph.D in Philosophy, which he described as "a degree in spouting total malarkey with a straight face.  A robot could do it better than me!"

I like to think this submarine is picking flowers for someone special.

I really like scientists!  One of my good friends, Jonathon Barnett, is a scientist, and he mentioned one day that he was going to make an Incredible Weather Making Machine.  I decided this is what it will look like.

Mozart, the Coffee-holic Cockatoo

(#5)

This picture was inspired by Flame Fly Creations over at ArtFire (where I have my own fantastic store as well--check it out)!  She posted this hilarious picture on one of the forums, and I just had to show what was REALLY going on.  Drawn on bristol with a Sharpie and a Pentel V5 Ex-Fine for the details.

Giraffes? Giraffes!!!

(#4) His name is Alfred

Giraffes have been my favorite animal since I was a tall gangly kid and decided we had a lot in common.  I have quite a few of the little guys hanging around my room.  This one is a cute little bean bag giraffe that was my keychain until the grommet ripped out of his back.  Don't worry!  I sewed him up again and now he sits on my desk.

Aaaaaand We're Back!

The Daily Doodle has been resurrected with a new look and a new name!  This time it's for reals, guys, at least one drawing every day, perhaps also accompanied by thoughtful pearls of humor and/or wisdom.  Here's what I drew today, in celebration of my new red pen!
(1) Frou Frou L'Amour

(2) Five Little Birds

(3) When in doubt, Tree
